Encourage Positive Economic Development
We need to concentrate on keeping businesses in Cudahy and make it easy and attractive for new businesses to locate in Cudahy. Once elected as your mayor, I will work to attract new businesses that will benefit and enhance our community. I will also work to ensure the citizens are not giving away unnecessary incentives to developers.
- Ice Port: It is time to end the Ice Port debacle. Read More >
- Payday Loan Stores: These stores are a sign of distress not progress for a community. Read More>
- Used Car Lots: Cudahy has too many used car lots, especially on Packard Avenue. Read More>
- Auto Zone: Once elected as your Mayor, the City of Cudahy will no longer settle for second best. Read More>
- Wal-Mart: I do not think that the City of Cudahy should provide a $12 million tax subsidy to the world’s biggest retailer. Residents may not even see the tax benefits from the development for 20 years
Providing Quality City Service
Cudahy should provide appropriate services in an efficient and economical manor, which is responsive to the needs of the residents. Elected officials and city employees are all public servants. As your mayor, I will expect all city employees to be courteous, respectful and helpful.
- Public Infrastructure: I believe that it is important to maintain a solid infrastructure. Read More>
- Taxes: The City of Cudahy followed by the Cudahy School District both a had higher tax bill increase than the county. Read More>
- Budgeting: It is the mayor’s responsibility to present a balanced budget to the common council. The past two budgets, Mayor Hohenfeldt has presented deficit budgets. That is unacceptable.
- City Contracts: I will review all city contracts for services to ensure the city is getting the biggest bang for the buck.
Holding Absentee Landlords Accountable for their Properties
- Absentee Landlords: Absentee landlords are one of the biggest problems for the City of Cudahy. Absentee landlords should be held accountable for the proper upkeep and maintenance of their properties. Living in the historic part of Cudahy, I see blighted properties everyday. Once elected as your Mayor, I will implement a plan to hold absentee landlords accountable for their properties.
- Care for Cudahy: While serving on the Cudahy Common Council, I championed the blight buster “Care for Cudahy”. I realized that our inspections department was reactive instead of proactive. This program has tremendously improved the quality of housing in our community. With your vote I can finish the job I started.
Curbing Crime
- Public Safety: As a father of three children, I realize that public safety is very important to all residents. I will work with local law enforcement to identify the problems and find the solutions. I believe it is our right to feel safe and secure in Cudahy. I will encourage both the Fire and Police Chief to search for federal and state grants to enhance their departments.
- Gang Ordinance: Current Mayor publicly opposed the gang ordinance. I think we need to strengthen it. I have already begun discussing how to toughen the gang ordinance with our new Milwaukee County District Attorney, John Chisholm. He has pledged his support in helping me with this effort.
Communication
Once elected as you Mayor, I will carefully listen to all the points of view of my constituents and then make to best decision for the majority of the people. My record proves that I am committed to having open communications. As your Milwaukee County Supervisor, nearly every month since June of 2002 I have held “Round Table Discussions” to listen to what is important to my constituents.
- Residents: I will return your phone call in a timely fashion. I will treat residents with the dignity and respect they deserve. Once elected as your Mayor, I will host “Meetings with the Mayor” to afford residence an opportunity to learn more about city issues, give suggestions and ask questions.
- Businesses: Working with the Cudahy Chamber of Commerce to improve the local economy is a top priority for me. I will re-institute breakfast with Mayor for Cudahy’s businesses.
- Common Council: As a former Alderman, I understand the importance of having open communications with the members of the common council.
- City Employees: It is important to have open and honest communication with city employees. Once elected as your mayor, I will host brown bag lunches with city employees to discuss city issues.
